ABOUT ME

Hello! I'm Sophia Peng and welcome to my Minor in Writing Capstone portfolio!

Moving to Ann Arbor, MI for college is one of the best decisions I've ever made. I've learned and lived more in the past 4 years than I have in my previous 17 years combined. I've cried, I've laughed, I've grown, and I've changed in ways that I never imagined were possible. I entered college with the sole goal of excelling in order to get into medical school, but along the way, I met some of the most interesting, intelligent, and inspiring people who have changed how I see and understand this crazy complex world. Since my walk through the fountain in front of the Clock Tower in July of 2011, I've realized my ambitions extend beyond just succeeding in the scientific world.

My interests include more than just neuroscience now: public health, education, communication, technology. Writing has become crucial in how I articulate and share my opinions on these topics and in The Invisible Bridge, my writer's evolution essay, I chronicle how it entered my life and how it has influenced my identity as a student, artist, and scientist. The pieces I have chosen to include in this portfolio reflect not only the topics I've become passionate about, but also show how my skills and style have transformed over the years. Because of writing, I am more creative and a much stronger critical thinker and these 6 pieces best illustrate where I started and where I'm headed.

So take a look around and get a feel for the journey I've undergone! My time at this incredible university is almost over but I'll never forget all that I've gained: the friends, the stories, the knowledge. Though this portfolio represents an ending, a summary of what I've accomplished, my writing and growth do not end here. Wherever, I go, everywhere I go, words will document and share my experiences, and I'm excited to see how writing will continue to change my life.
